CNN Hires New
Senior V.P. for ´Hispanic Strategy´
The new boss for CNN en Español, Cynthia Hudson, has a notable title.
Ms. Hudson
will be the “senior vice president and general manager of CNN en Español and
Hispanic strategy,” the company announced Monday. The “Hispanic strategy” part
of the title sticks out: it suggests that CNN, a unit of
Time Warner,
wants to expand its outreach to the growing Hispanic population in the United
States.
The
distribution of the 13-year-old CNN en Español channel is limited in the United
States: the company
pegs it
at “more than four million households.”
A CNN
spokesman said the distribution had roughly doubled in the U.S. in the last 12
months. According to 2009 data by the Nielsen Company, 10.2 million Hispanic
households are subscribers to cable, indicating that CNN en Español has a lot of
room to grow.
Ms. Hudson,
formerly of the
Spanish Broadcasting System,
will move to CNN´s headquarters in Atlanta from Miami, the company said.
